Inspiring women and girls into badminton

5 Strands
Women In Badminton is a network of badminton clubs, players, coaches and everyone interested in badminton, wellbeing, health and fitness. Our work is summarised in five key strands, as follows.
Play badminton
Badminton is a fantastic sport to play for all. We want to have more playing sessions and hear about all the wonderful sessions taking place already.
Badminton is an inclusive sport however, research suggests that girls and women tend to stop doing activities or sports because of barriers, body image and changes, caring responsibilities and etc. We want to encourage clubs, coaches and players to offer opportunities to women and girls to get back into or start playing badminton. Our vision is to get more girls and women to participate in competitions, holding women’s only competitions, competitions with different clubs, can join the Vegan Badminton initiative
To help with this it’s important to have more flexible development programmes for female coaches and development pathways for girls to excel in.
Network
We are a network of badminton clubs, players, coaches and everyone interested in badminton, wellbeing, health and fitness. To be an effective network we want to build support groups, events and workshops and provide or signpost to resources.
Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging
Badminton is an inclusive sport, a sport for everyone and we are here to promote this. We want clubs, coaches and players to form strong local presence to support groups, including community groups and organisations making a difference to local residents.
Education
We want our networks to thrive and be well informed. We will raise awareness of our work and clubs, coaches and players through social media, events, meet-ups.
To use facts, data and trends in the sector to drive conversations, work programmes, webinars etc.
Empowerment
Create an ambassador programme, aimed to empower women, recognise their role in society and raise awareness of the need for all to build a society with equal and equitable opportunities. Women In Badminton would like to have high-level female sportswomen, health practitioners and fitness trainers, with whom to continue to pave the way for women’s sport and fitness to finally get the recognition it deserves.
