Women in Badminton League

We are pleased to announce that we are in the process of setting up a Women’s League. We launched it in March 2026 as part of marking and celebrating International Women’s Day.

We have had a great response from our members, and currently have five teams. There will be two stages this year.

  • Internal stage – where our member teams play a round robin to determine an overall ranking.
  • External stage – where our member teams will play with teams from other Clubs in a round robin format.

How does it work?

The league is essentially a collect of teams, with each team having a pool of players (the “squad”) from which players are picked for upcoming fixtures (the “nominated players”).

Each fixture is a match (consisting of six rubbers) played against another team. The team which wins the most rubbers, or in the event of a tie, the most number of points, is deeded the winner.

Each fixture will consist of four nominated players from each team. Before each match the team should inform the league organiser who the four nominated players for upcoming matches are, including one substitute. For clarity, substitution is only allowed in case of injury, not where nominated player have failed to turn up for their matches and/or late to arrive.

Each rubber will be best of three games of 15 (i.e. 3×15), following the newest scoring system approved by Badminton World Federation.

The line-up for each fixture will be as follows. For example, taking two teams A and B, each with four nominated players, 1, 2, 3 and 4. Thus, the line-up for the six rubbers would be as follows.

  • Rubber 1) Player A1 & A2 vs. B1 & B2
  • Rubber 2) Player A3 & A4 vs. B3 & B4
  • Rubber 3) Player A1 & A3 vs. B1 & B3
  • Rubber 4) Player A2 & A4 vs. B2 & B4
  • Rubber 5) Player A1 & A4 vs. B1 & B4
  • Rubber 6) Player A2 & A3 vs. B2 & B3

In case of injury only, one substitute is allowed. For example, if A1 got injured in Rubber 1, that match is forfeited. However, for Rubber 3 and 5, where A1 would have played, another team member, say A5, from Team A can take their place.

Results of each game are recorded on the match score sheet and at the end of the session signed by a team representative, and submitted to the league organiser to have the scores recorded against the overall league tally.
