Play Badminton Club is delighted to have held a Women’s Doubles’ Competition this year, especially planned to start in the lead up to International Women’s Day!
There was a big interest in this years tournament, where we had 22 ladies competing. A lot of them play in different sessions during the week, so we offered them practice sessions to get a chance to meet and play. The matches took place over three different venues!
We started with a Round Robin, where each pair played best of one with others in their groups, those who reached the top four places in their groups proceeded to the quarter finals and played against the other group.
The semi-finals and finals were played in one session (our Super Sunday as there were Vegan League matches on that day too), where the finals and play-offs went into decider games that could have gone either way. These games had some brilliant rallies, with some beautiful net shots. The ladies dug deep, for motivation and energy, they were cheered on by the wonderful audience.
A huge congratulations to our champions Bijal and Vani, who played tremendously and showed great resilience in the face of continuous play.
Rachel and Rakhee, you two showed determination and flowed so well on the court, congratulations on being our Runners Up.
Well done Trisha and Ritu on your Third place, not sure how you were still smiling at the end of those enduring games!
Rashna and Sicily well done on winning the beautiful bright prize, you two were fantastic and pushed through until the end of your decider.
Irrespective of not having played with one another previously, the ladies worked well together through practice, communication and team work. The games brought out their true passion for the sport. Of course, it’s always important to remember these are friendly competitions. We hope this will encourage them and others in the Club to take part in future competitions.
